Our History
In April 2018, Donna Maheady and Vicki Silver, two mothers of former elementary special education classmates raised money to start a special needs hand bell choir. The program, based on a national model, has a goal of increasing independent life skills for adults with varied abilities. The Exceptional Ensembell includes notable adults playing music together joyfully.
The choir practiced weekly at the Town of Jupiter Recreation Center in Jupiter, Florida from 2018-2020.
In response to the closure of the Recreation Center due to Covid-19, choir practices moved to a virtual format using Zoom meetings.
Currently, we practice in-person at the Methodist Church of the Palm Beaches. Online practices continue as well.
We are now averaging 20 ringers!!
The goal of the Exceptional Ensembell Bell Choir is to build self-esteem, independence and social skills and to share unique musical abilities with the community.
